The coach and coordinator for the Met's Senior womens program is currently vacant, after the departure to Australia of the Met's former treasurer Peter Rizzo who attempted to create this team and to organize training sessions and match fixtures.  Contact the Met's women's coordinator Nancy Scuri for more information or to volunteer for this role

MetNY U23 Women’s Team:

Tryout Dates:

March 21^st: 10am-1pm, Randall’s Island, Field 73

April 11^th: 930am-noon, Randall’s Island, Field 73

All-Star Tournament Date:

April 25^th: Only for those who make the MetNY U23 squad. All day Northeast All-Star Tournament at UMass Amherst. Players will be expected to be at the designated hotel no later than 9pm Saturday 4/24.

*equipment, jerseys, 4/24 accommodations will be provided for – all other costs and all transportation is the responsibility of the player.*

What the MetNY U23 coaches look for:

· Understanding of position in static and open play (offense, defense, support, etc.)

· Solid execution of the basics, above average skills/player (ball handling, tackling, rucking, mauling, etc.)

· Insight for the game (ability to read the field, phases of play, forward thinking in offense and defense)

· Strong communication (creates a presence on the field and garners respect from teammates)

· Team player

In addition to the above, the NRU U23 coaches specifically look for:

· Athleticism/fitness above average – VERY IMPORTANT

· Basics done consistently, well and at pace for 80 minutes

The coaches and coordinators for the Met's U19 womens program are currently Gary Heavner and Heidi Rubenstein, who coordinated selection and training starting in early 2009.  In early 2009 the Met's U19 mens team travelled to compete in regional competition in Albany.  Watch this space for additional reports about past selections and results, and for announcements about future selections, training sessions and regional competition.

The coach and coordinator for the Met's U23 mens program is currently Bruce Maclane, who has coordinated selection and training for several years.  In late 2007, the Met's Senior mens team held tryouts, training and travelled to Danbury and won its matches in regional competition against NERFU Mens Select side, and travelled to Florida for tournament competition.  Mens LAU Select side competition is under review generally, as USAR playoffs now occur in the fall, when Select Side matches typically occurred in prior years.  Watch this space for additional reports about past selections and results, and for announcements about future selections, training sessions and regional competition.
