Match # 1: METNY 31  Pacific Northwest 12.

            The score of this match was tied at 12-12 at the end of the first half.  The METNY side dominated the second half, scoring 19 points, to come away with a comfortable win.  John Cronje was named man of the match for METNY.  Scoring for the Met NY team were John Cronje and Frank Gianchetta 2 tries each; JT Sheehan 1 try; Tyler Maccubbin 3 conversions.

Match #2: Texas 16  METNY 14

            METNY played the defending champions, Texas, in their second match.  Texas boasted 8 USA U-19 players and proved to be a tough opponent.  In a hard fought match that many spectators said was the match of the day, METNY fell 16-14 to Texas.  The match ended in controversy as the METNY side passed up a makable penalty kick at the end after being advised by the ref that they were 4 points behind.  Mike Bunce was the man of the match for METNY.  Scoring for the Met NY team were Mike Bunce 2 tries; Tyler Maccubbin 2 conversions.

Match #3: Wisconsin 15  METNY 14

            METNY played a very lethargic match falling behind 5-0 at the half.  The side rallied in the second half to take a 12-10 lead with seconds remaining.  However, Wisconsin punched in a try on the last play of the match and METNY was handed a disappointing loss.  Matt Novitzky was the man of the match for Met NY.  Scoring for the METNY team were Matt Novitzky and Frank Gianchetta 1 try each; Tyler Maccubbin 2 conversions.

Match #4: METNY 43 Minnesota 12

            Met NY started slowly and held a slim 14-0 lead at the half.  Shaking off the late night and disappointment of the two earlier losses, METNY exploded for 29 second half points and earned a comprehensive 43-12 victory. The man of the match for Met NY was Mike DePrisco.  Scoring for the Met NY team were Mike DePrisco 2 tries; Ed Cullen, Peter Brink, Conrad Egusa, Marvin Jean­Baptiste, and Frank Gianchetta 1 try each; Tyler Maccubbin 4 conversions.

            By the end of the tournament the METNY team had demonstrated they were as good as all the other teams.  Two narrow losses by a total of 3 points were the only downside for the team.  The U19s showed spirit and determination and as a result of their efforts, 11 players were recognized by the USA U19 selectors and were invited to the summer developmental camp.  In addition, Rob Caridi and Mike Bunce were named to the all tournament first XV and Tyler Maccubbin was named to the second XV.  At the Denver event, the METNY team scored 102 points (16 tries) to their opponents’ 58 points (10 tries).  Individual scorers for the team were Frank Gianchetta: 4 tries, John Cronje: 2 tries, Mike DePrisco: 2 tries, Mike Bunce: 2 tries, Matt Novitzky, Marvin Jean ­Baptiste, Conrad Egusa, Peter Brink, JT Sheehan, and Ed Cullen 1 try each.  Tyler Maccubbin added 11 conversions and again led the team in scoring.
