Important Message from the President of the Met Union
Change of the Collegiate Seeding

 2006 Northeast Rugby AGM

The Northeast Rugby Union AGM was held this past Sunday, January 29, in Albany.  Overall the meeting was productive and we are seeing some progress in cooperation between the LAU's.

The future restructuring of USA Rugby and the cooperation of the national referee's society was discussed.

Lori Staples, the VP of  Women's competitions reported on the continued success of the Women's All Star   XV's program in winning the ITT's.  They are presently looking to identify a new Coach and Manager. Drew Fautley of New York RFC, is the current candidate for the position.  Women's I.T.T.'s will be in June 2006. The Women's 7's program is also looking for a coach.  Chris Ryan has coached the Women's 7?s but will not be continuing.  The NRU is looking to find his successor ASAP.  For all NRU coaches and managers, a job criteria and application process will be published to allow all interested applicants to submit resumes by April 15 for senior programs and August 15 for collegiates.

There was discussion about fundraisers in order to offset the cost of the ITT's.  In order to deal with the various eligibility issues that arise during playoffs and ITT's an eligibility committee will be created to ensure that all NRU representative sides  and clubs competing for national championships are compliant with all USA regulations.   Both  a youth coordinator and a referee coordinator will be added to the NRU board to focus on game development in the NRU.

Met NY insisted on a reexamination of the current collegiate seeding process.  A motion was made that the current Conference Champions must be seeded in the top four seeds of the NRU playoffs After extensive lobbying the  motion passed.  Going forward , the METNY champions will be guaranteed no less than a 4th seed in the NRU playoffs and a home game in the first round.

Tom Rienzo advised that there would be a USA Coaching clinic, under the new system at R.I.T., Albany on March 4th and 5th 2006. \A player Development camp would be held in conjunction with the clinic.  A Referee clinic would be held in Albany on Feb 4th.  Everyone was advised of the clinic that will be held at Stony Brook.
