Bayonne Bombers make History
The Bayonne Bombers made history on March 10th
when they played the first ever Fifteen a side contact rugby
game on The Turks & Caicos Islands. Bayonne RFC have toured to
the Caribbean every year since 2000 (2000
Bahamas (Freeport), 2001 Bermuda, 2002 Cayman Islands, 2003
Bahamas (Nassau), 2004 Cayman Islands, 2005 Tortola) and when
TCI Rugby were contacted with a view to touring they were very
responsive and most welcoming hosts. Bayonne traveled with 19
players from all ranks of the club and essentially played the
National team under floodlights in front of a great crowd of
very enthusiastic supporters.
The score was very one-sided with TCI very much in control and
with a lot of very experienced Ex-pats among their ranks they
relished getting to play a game of 15's.
The game was only one of the highlights of the tour with Bayonne
enjoying 6-nations rugby on Saturday morning, followed by a
cruise on the "Atabeyra" yacht, as well as some beach rugby at a
deserted island. All in all, a very
nice way to spend a weekend in March as a pre-season warm-up.
TCI Rugby could not have been kinder hosts and are keen to
welcome other
teams from the US.
