| MetNY Gets Geared Up for D1 Collegiate Playoffs |
|
With the creation of the CPL (College Premier League), USA Rugby designated several local unions as “automatic qualifier” regions. As MetNY was selected to be such a union, the winner of the Met NY’ division 1 will have an automatic bid to compete in the college rugby national championship tournament. In years past, the Met NY’s divisional winner had to go through the NY State Rugby union and the ever dangerous New England Rugby Union before making it into the college championship tournament. With such a great opportunity on the line, the Met NY D1 playoff race could not be more exciting.
Army is the current divisional leader, but as in past years they will not compete in the playoffs as they will be part of the CPL. This leaves a tight race between 3 of the four remaining teams. Southern Connecticut is the proverbial favorite, as their sole loss was in a hard fought match against the Army side. Next in the standings is the Stony Brook team.
