Village Lions Men Seek Head Coach

The Village Lions RFC is currently seeking a Head Coach for the Men’s team.

Village Lions RFC was founded in New York City’s Greenwich Village in 1989 and the Men’s team currently competes in Division 2 of the Met-NY Union. Met-NY recently swept the Northeast Championships and is reorganizing Division 1 moving 2-3 teams from Division 2 to Division 1.  Both Division 1 and 2 will consist of 7-8 teams.

The Men’s team currently has over 70 CIPPed members competing on the A and B side. The Club also has an active Old Boys side and a successful Women’s Side. The Club is managed by an experienced Board with strong administration and solid finances. The Club’s finances are supported through fundraising and the hosting of two major tournaments, Four Leaf Fifteens in March and Hell Gate Sevens in July. After a very successful initial effort the Hell Gate Sevens will become an annual summer 7s event expanding to 32 teams while the Four Leaf Fifteens is headed for its 7th year with 60 teams and has become the one of the premier 15s tournament events in the country.

Leveraging the Club’s strong finances and relationship with the local Met-NY union, the Lions have secured access to state-of-the-art rugby practice and game facilities (fields are lighted and lined for rugby with permanent regulation posts) on Wards Island in New York City.  The Lions work closely with local, regional, and national unions as co-hosts of the National All-Star Sevens, the Northeast Regional Championships and the Met-NY Summer Sevens Series to be launched in 2010. Players from over 40 countries have played for the Lions in their short history.  The Lions Men toured Argentina in 2009 and will tour Portugal in 2010.  Previous tours include England, Ireland, Italy, Holland, Denmark, Sweden and Hong Kong.

We are seeking a highly knowledgeable and motivated individual who has previous coaching experience at Division 2 or preferably higher.  The candidate would be USA Rugby certified with ambition matched to that of the club, that under the correct guidance has the infrastructure, potential and motivation to qualify for promotion to Division 1 in 2010.  The successful applicant would assume full authority and control of player development and freedom to implement selection and practice activities.
